Un informe de la Sociedad Española de Oncología Médica revela un incremento de cánceres en mujeres.
Los hombres tienen más cánceres que las mujeres y, hasta hace poco, el número de cánceres se incrementaba más en los varones. Este dato ha cambiado, como refleja un informe de la Sociedad Española de Oncología Médica: el número de tumores nuevos diagnosticados en España es ya mayor en las mujeres. Al año son diagnosticados más de 161.000 casos en hombres frente a unos 116.000 en mujeres. Desde el año 2015, el aumento de pacientes masculinos con cáncer es del 8% en comparación a más de un 17% en mujeres. En términos globales, el incremento de los diagnósticos oncológicos ha aumentado un 12%. Estos datos son mayores de los esperados por las sociedades de oncología y revelan el incremento de cánceres en mujeres.
Un hecho sorprendente de los últimos años es el aumento notable de las mujeres fumadoras. Esta circunstancia se traduce en un incremento muy significativo del cáncer de pulmón que, en los próximos años va a ser muy importante en las mujeres. En España, a nivel global, el ranking de cánceres lo encabeza el cáncer de colon y recto (casi 45.000 casos), el cáncer de próstata (más de 34.000 casos), el cáncer de mama (más de 32.000 casos), y el de pulmón con casi 30.000. En los hombres, el de próstata seguido por el de colon son los más frecuentes y en las mujeres, el cáncer de mama y el de colon. Un dato paradójico es que, a nivel social, las campañas para la lucha contra el cáncer de mama son mucho más frecuentes y tienen mucha más repercusión. Es un hecho que se habla muy poco del cáncer de próstata en los hombres.
Un dato positivo es que el cáncer de estómago sigue bajando a nivel global. La explicación radica en: el mejor procesamiento y conservación de los alimentos, el descenso del consumo de alcohol y tabaco, y el tratamiento antibiótico frente a las infecciones por el Helicobacter.
